Challenging Conversations – how to handle them effectively
½ Day Workshop
There comes a point in most people’s careers when they have to deal with challenging conversations. Change management, individual or team performance, restructuring and redundancy are all areas that require a professional approach, particularly when bad news is involved. Whether we choose to avoid these conversations or prepare well for them is a critical factor in determining effective workplace communications
The state of the economy and the resulting pressure on businesses across all sectors will inevitably increase the need for change, performance improvement, restructure and headcount reduction. As a result, Business Managers and HR professionals will have to face the prospect of delivering difficult messages more frequently.
Recognising all of the above, HDA has developed a workshop, on how to effectively handle these challenging conversations, based on 30 years experience supporting organisations, (both HR and organisational leadership) to effectively manage organisational transition and redundancy; ensuring business continuity and reputation. When we run our sessions in-house we combine our reputation for providing highly interactive, practical and informative sessions; with the flexibility of having the workshop on a date and at a time that suits you; tailored specifically to your organisations needs.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is for all HR Professionals and Business Managers likely to be in the front-line of delivery. The key objectives being to assist you in developing a better understanding of the dynamics involved in challenging workplace communications and establishing a best practice model for use in business.
This interactive learning session/workshop combines insight from other professions; role-play scenarios performed by actors, forum theatre and focused discussion, to develop a practical preparation strategy and tools to become proficient in delivering difficult messages. Role-plays performed by actors will address issues likely to arise within conversations around: change, performance and redundancy.
The maximum number of participants is 16 and the minimum recommended number is 4.

- Review strategies used in other professions to handle difficult conversations
- Understand emotional reactions to receiving and delivering bad news

- Examine a variety of scenarios highlighting typical workplace situations
- Enable participants to address questions/issues they may be facing in the workplace

The cost for a (4Hr) workshop and preparation is £1200 + VAT & expenses.

Paul Jones - HDA Consultant
Paul specialises in coaching for performance, and has a keen understanding of workplace behaviours and what it takes to achieve in a challenging/changing environment. He has over 20 years experience of supporting all levels and disciplines across a broad range of sectors.
Paul’s career spans banking, recruitment, career management and the theatre. Prior to moving in to career coaching and performance development, he held UK and international roles in Sales, Operations and Corporate Relations
