Why we work in this area

HDA has worked in this area for almost 30 years, with significant success supporting clients seeking a significant career change, from employment to self employment, across disciplines and professions, and so on.

Via our service we have eg. helped investment bankers to become yacht valets and hotel proprietors, senior Stock Exchange managers to become farmers, process operators to become E-Bay entrepreneurs, managers at all levels to become independent consultants and interim managers, media directors to become heads of charities, senior HR professionals to become independent business coaches, healthcare workers to become policemen, and so on.

People are now taking more direct control of their careers and are relying less on their organisations, industries and professions to help them to achieve their career objectives. At the same time there is a trend away from linear careers towards people embarking on the next career stage in order to seek satisfaction, enjoyment and personal lifestyle choice in the first instance.

Whilst this trend is strengthening, people often require support to help them to unlock optimum career change opportunities, and our coaching approach adds leverage to them.

• HDA’s team has significant experience providing career change coaching support for clients at all levels, in the UK and globally, providing highly tailored individual support to people who may have highly complex career transition, domestic and financial needs – with any fundamental career change adding a further learning and risk dimension
• As a business involved in business and executive coaching, we bring these skills to bear in supporting clients to make big career jumps, and to make correspondingly big lifestyle changes, by giving them the advice, tools and contacts to support their career change decisions
• HDA runs a range of highly effective career change workshops and seminars which complement our one-to-one career change support, including our Career Change Workshop which applies highly effective enablement/unlocking tools such as appreciative inquiry, the options funnel and motivational interviewing.
• HDA has a well developed complementary range of online psychometric and 360 tools and knowledge resources to support the career change process

 

Our approach in this area

• The main feature of this service is that individuals are assigned to an experienced executive career consultant who will work with them to develop a plan to secure a change in career. This career consultant provides guidance and support to assist the client to make best use of the various support elements available within the programme, including access to executive coaching, key workshops and networking events
• HDA’s support combines strong devils advocacy and probing (eg. via psychometrics, 360’ s, etc.) combined with a dedicated outcomes-focused approach, to move people forward to optimal decisions within optimal time frames
• As mentioned above, our coaching and workshops in this area apply a broad range of tools such as appreciative inquiry, the options funnel and motivational interviewing in both one-to-one and group situations to enable optimal decisions. This allows individuals to stand back and consider key questions such as the following to help inform their ‘what-next ?’ decisions:
  • What are my 3 best qualities or strengths?
  • What do I value? How have these values been reflected in my work?
  • The times in my life I feel most energized are….
  • A ‘high’ point in my career was when … what were the root causes of success? What about me made this achievement possible?
