HDA 9-Box Matrix & Team engagement survey
HDA has developed a unique offering, the HDA 9-Box Matrix © Team engagement survey, which sets out to ‘pulse test’ the degree to which people across the organisation are engaged with the objectives of the organisation, and the degree to which there are any specific factors across the organisation which need to be managed to improve employee engagement levels.
We find that most survey providers fail the organisations they work with by providing measurement and analysis, but without an effective consultancy approach for ensuring that survey results can be turned into sensible actions for the business. To counteract this, HDA links its well developed measurement and communication tools with significant facilitation experience, which it brings to focus group activity and follow-up work in this area.
Our approach in this area
We ensure that corporate clients clearly own the process, and we brand all documentation in line with key internal communication programmes.
Our approach is about identifying manageable issues which can be constructively dealt with – it is not about measuring opinion, or creating metrics, or benchmarks. It is a means (a measure) towards an end (organisational improvement), rather than an end in itself. A good associate engagement survey leads to actions, and this is in keeping with HDA’s strong outcomes-focused approach, which it applies to all areas of its consultancy. For this reason, the survey process is not overly complex, and it is intended that the results of the survey are capable of being followed up in a managed, systematic fashion.

In addition to the survey itself (delivered online, by email or in hardcopy), we believe it is always important to factor in time/cost for follow up support to implement recommendations, which is crucial in raising engagement levels. Being serious about acting on and managing the results must be an integral part of any attempt to create and sustain employee engagement levels.
